Anurag Pharmacy College celebrated World Pharmacists Day 2026 on 25 September 2026, recognizing the significant contributions of pharmacists to healthcare and highlighting their vital role in promoting safe medicine use, improving access to medicines, supporting patient care, and building healthier communities.

The celebration focused on the theme “Empowering Pharmacists for a Healthier Future” and the sub-theme “Swastha Bharat: Combating Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR)”. The event emphasized the growing responsibilities of pharmacists in patient care, medication safety, public health, disease prevention, and strengthening healthcare systems.

Pharmacists play an essential role across community pharmacies, hospitals, pharmaceutical industries, research institutions, regulatory organizations, and other healthcare settings. Their responsibilities extend beyond dispensing medicines to include patient counseling, promoting appropriate medicine use, ensuring medication safety, supporting treatment adherence, health education, and disease prevention.

Address by the Principal

Prof. M. Chinnaeswaraiah, Principal, Anurag Pharmacy College, addressed the gathering and delivered an insightful speech on the importance of World Pharmacists Day 2026 and the theme “Swastha Bharat: Combating Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR).”

He highlighted the need to empower pharmacists to contribute effectively to healthcare and emphasized the importance of responsible medicine use and coordinated action against antimicrobial resistance.

The key areas highlighted during the address included:

• Creating awareness and taking action against Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR)

Role of Pharmacists in Healthcare

Dr. B. Raja, Head of the Department (HOD), delivered a speech on the “Role of Pharmacists in Healthcare.”

He explained that pharmacists are an integral part of the healthcare system, contributing to safe medicine use, patient care, disease prevention, and public health across hospitals, community pharmacies, pharmaceutical industries, research institutions, and other healthcare settings.

He highlighted several important responsibilities of pharmacists, including:

• Safe Use of Medicines: Providing guidance on proper medicine use, possible side effects, drug interactions, and treatment adherence.
• Medication Safety: Promoting responsible use of medicines and supporting patients in achieving better treatment outcomes.
• Antimicrobial Resistance Awareness: Encouraging the responsible use of antibiotics and creating awareness about the growing challenge of AMR.
• Preventive Healthcare: Supporting health screening, vaccination awareness, and other preventive healthcare initiatives within the professional scope of pharmacy.
• Health Education: Educating patients and communities about medicines, healthy practices, and disease prevention.
• Chronic Disease Management: Supporting patients in the effective and safe management of long-term health conditions.
• Collaborative Healthcare: Working with doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to improve medication-related care and patient outcomes.

Essay Writing Competition

As part of the celebrations, an Essay Writing Competition was organized for the students on the topic:

“Empowering Pharmacists to Combat Antimicrobial Resistance: Role of Pharmacist in Building a Healthier Future.”

The competition witnessed enthusiastic participation from the students, providing them with an opportunity to express their perspectives on the role of pharmacists in combating antimicrobial resistance and building a healthier future.

Pujitha, IV B.Pharm, emerged as the winner of the Essay Writing Competition.

The event concluded on a joyful note with the distribution of sweets and cake cutting, adding a sense of togetherness and celebration among the students and staff.
